Looking Forward

I want to begin by sincerely apologizing to everyone. Over the past year, I have not fulfilled several promises I made for CyberFurz LLC. This responsibility is mine alone, and I believe in owning my shortcomings. I committed to greater transparency regarding our finances, but I did not deliver on that. For full clarity, CyberFurz has been operating at a complete deficit since February 2025, with all funding coming solely from my personal contributions as CEO.

Operating at a loss was somewhat expected, so I am not discouraged by it. While I am not asking for donations, my goal is for CyberFurz to at least break even this year. To achieve this, I plan to introduce new services and tools that can help generate revenue. I will discuss these plans shortly, but first I want to focus on the immediate changes we are implementing.

Last year, we implemented several cost-cutting measures. We transitioned from multiple servers to a single dedicated server, significantly reducing expenses. Additionally, we are seeking more affordable options for our business mailbox, as the current service costs nearly $30 per month for something we rarely use but must maintain for legal reasons. We are also managing most of our registrations, such as DMCA and FinCEN, internally rather than outsourcing them, further saving costs.

Next, I want to address recent legal changes that affect our operations. As a company registered in Virginia, we must comply with both state and federal regulations. Virginia has introduced new laws regarding age restrictions and adult content, with significant penalties for non-compliance. To avoid potential fines and ensure we operate within the law, we have paused open registrations while I review the necessary compliance measures.

I want to be completely transparent: these developments have raised significant concerns about the future of CyberFurz. The legal and financial burdens have led me to consider shutting down the company, but while that option remains on the table, my preference is to find a way forward. Amidst challenges in my personal life, I have been exploring new models, such as a hub-and-spoke ActivityPub service where each user operates their own sub-instance, to better manage risk and compliance. I will share more details about this idea soon.

Who is WE at CyberFurz LLC?

Currently, the team consists of just myself. I am open to bringing on volunteers again in the future or, if circumstances allow, hiring actual employees. For now, however, I am managing CyberFurz on my own.

New Services?

As mentioned earlier, I have been brainstorming and developing new projects behind the scenes. These initiatives are designed to address the recent legal challenges, providing solutions for users to host ActivityPub-based social media without needing to self-host, yet still operate independently within a single instance. I will share more information as these projects near completion.

Additionally, I plan to release a variety of useful and enjoyable tools for the community. These include features like weekly ListenBrainz data summaries, cross-posting tools for users active on other platforms (such as X, formerly Twitter), and enhancements to FurryFediverse, such as a more robust directory to help users connect with others. While similar tools exist, I believe there is value in offering multiple options and unique approaches.

In Closing

This year, my priority is to demonstrate that CyberFurz LLC can achieve a sustainable business model. If we cannot reach this goal, I will have to seriously consider closing the company. My hope, however, is to continue developing valuable services and features that the furry community can use and enjoy.
